Royal and Ancient

The Royal and Ancient took over from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club as the governing body of worldwide golf. Theur remit however does not include golfing in the USA and Mexico, who are governed by the USGA. The R and A works closely with over 100 national governing bodies and it also has a major role in promoting golf, particularly to non-playing countries. It will be responsible for the appointments of all officials at the Open Championship 2009 at Turnberry and for the administration of the tournament.
