Phil Mickelson

British Open Golf 2012 Contenders - Phil Mickelson

It is very difficult to say anything new about Phil Mickelson that has not already been said before, he is a multiple Major winner and were it not for Tiger Woods he would have dominated the sport of the past decade. The left-handed player has been one of the best players in the world now for the best part of a decade and is capable of producing golf of the very highest quality.

Mickelson has also managed to win the PGA Championship as he did in 2005 so he is clearly a player capable of winning at the very highest level, he is always there or there abouts in the Majors so can never be ruled out in the betting. If there is one Major his has occasionally struggled at it is the British Open, his playing style contrasts with links golf and outside of a third place in 2004 he has endured some tough times in the UK.

He will be looking to improve that record at sandwich this year though and he could hardly be in any better form, 'Lefty' picked up the Masters in Augusta and is closing in on the No.1 Ranking of Tiger Woods. His Final round at Augusta was simply sensational and if he can get anywhere near that standard at St Andrews he is in with a great chance of his first Claret Jug.

Mickelson is clearly ready for a big push at the British Open this year, he has been talking up his game after arriving early to play in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond. He has shown his commitment to the tournament and is making all the right noises in the build up to the first round, punters should take note of this confidence and at a good price he may prove a good bet in 2011.
