Open Championship Contenders 2012 - Padraig Harrington

British Open Golf Betting Padraig HarringtonThe Open Championship 2011 will obviously be paying a warm reception to its two-time Champion from 2007 and 2008, Padraig Harrington. When winning the British Open Golf championship at Royal Birkdale in 2008, Padraig entered into the Open history record books and joined a very elite band of players who have managed to defend the title. Those players include, Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and the great Australian, Peter Thompson, who actually defended the Open twice.

After winning the Claret Jug twice, Padraig was launched into the top three players in the world, his highest ever position and his confidence is now high in the majors despite slipping slightly in the last year. Royal St Georges will have its challenges for the two-time Champion, but he is better equipped than most to deal with them and few would be surprised to see him at his very best once again. It is little wonder that he has become one of the favourites in the tournament to bet on and there will be many taking advantage of the Free Bet Offers for the Open this year.

Harrington won three Majors in less than 18 months back in 2007 and 2008 to reach the very top of the world of golf but it has to be said he has struggled for a couple of years now to regain that form. There is some thought that Harrington has lost that winning edge he once had but such is his skill on the links and experience that he can never be ruled out by punters. The man from Ireland usually saves his best for the Open and there will be plenty of shrewd punters wanting to back him each-way at Royal St Georges this year and we would not want to put anyone off.

It was nice to see Padraig make the cut at the US Open recently as it was the first time he has played the weekend at a Major since the same tournament a year ago at Pebble Beach. It is clear that Harrington is not in the same form as he was in 2008 but few would be surprised to see him raise his game once again for another tilt at the Claret Jug.
