Nick Faldo

British Open Golf Nick FaldoBritains greatest ever golfer Nick Faldo, retains a permanent place in the Open golf history books as he is the only Britain in modern times to be a three time British Open golf winner. Nick won twice at Muirfield and once at his beloved St Andrews. His greatest ever Major Golf achievemnet however must have been his third win in the US Masters in 1996, when he came from five shots down to overhaul leader Greg Norman. It was pulsating viewing and ranks as one of the great moments in golf history. In winning Faldo was capturing his third Masters crown, but sadly for Norman, the 'Green Jacket' had eluded him once again. There has been much conjecture into what Nick said to Greg at the end of the tournament and publicly it has never been revealed, whatever it was it helped Greg get over his greatest ever golfing disappointment.

Nick had achieved something similar over Norman at the British Open at St Andrews in 1990, when he went on to win the Open for the 2nd time. It was the third round and they had been paired together with Greg leading the tournament and Nick just behind. By the end of play that day Greg was left trailing and Nick of course went onto produce what was at the time a record win on the 'old course'.

Sadly Nick rarely plays these days and will not be taking advantage of his automatic right to play in the British Open 2009, instead he will be commenatating for an American network TV Company where no doubt he will be offering a British Open tip or two and suggestions for for the British Open free bets that are available via this site.

Nick achieved 43 career victories and in addition to his six Major titles it should be noted that he also finished runner up in both of the other two Majors, the US Open and the PGA Championship. Nick also holds the record for the most ever Ryder Cup points and Captained the European Team in 2008.
