Martin Kaymer

British Open Golf Contenders 2012 - Martin Kaymer

Martin Kaymer is one of the new band of young European players who are now right at the top of the world game and the German player will be looking for his second Major Championship at Royal St Georges this season. The past couple of years have been wonderful for Martin Kaymer with a meteoric rise up the world rankings and a number of massive wins already on his CV. The biggest moment of all came last season when Kaymer held his nerve on the back nine at Whistling Straits to win the USPGA Championship, in doing so he became just the second German after Bernhard Langer to win a Major.

Kaymer exudes coolness on the course and that should stand him in good stead through his career with plenty of wins still ahead of him, and it would be no surprise to see him lifting the Claret Jug for the first time. Kaymer is a former World No.1 and currently sits at number three in the rankings, he has proven to be massively consistent on the tour and that is reflected in his ranking.

As well as having a Major Championship to his name, Kaymer also won the Race To Dubai on the European Tour last season when he led the money list in top class company. Kaymer also made is Ryder Cup debut last season as part of the successful European Team at Celtic Manor, it has been a whirlwind couple of years for him and he is of course one of the favourites in the British Open Betting. Kaymer has only played the Open Championship three times before but his best performance was last year at St Andrews where he came home in a tie for seventh place.

His lack of experience on the links courses is a negative for punters wanting to back Kaymer but such is the talent of the German it would be no surprise to seem him have a good week at Sandwich.
