Open Championship Contenders 2011 - Louis Oosthuizen

We cannot talk about contenders to win the 2011 British Open Golf without talking about Louis Oosthuizen who of course is the defending Champion after he won the Claret Jug so brilliantly last year at St Andrews. The man from South Africa shocked the golfing world last year when under the most intense pressure he produced a stunning round of golf to win the Open by a miraculous seven strokes.

Prior to his success at St Andrews Oosthuizen had shown very little form in the Major Championships but with that experience behind him he may well have another good four days at sandwich this season. It has to be said that very few players win back-to-back Open Championships and his form has not been too good recently but it would be foolish to rule him out making him one for the each-way shortlist.

Oosthuizen has only ever made the cut at a Major Championship three times during his career from 12 starts so he clearly has a way to go if he is to be considered one of the best players in the world. The South African did have a decent week at the US Open recently though finishing in a tie for ninth and he will be hoping that will stand him in good stead for the defence of his Claret Jug at Royal St Georges.
