British Open Golf Contenders 2012 - Lee Westwood
No player in the world has been more consistent over the past two or three years than Lee Westwood and the man from England will head to Sandwich as a genuine British Open Golf contender. Westwood has plenty of experience on his side and is a former World no.1 making him one of the games best players, however he is yet to register his first Major Championship win and he will be eager to end that drought at the Open.
Latest Lee Westwood Open Championship 2012 Odds
Westwood has all the tools to play well at Sandwich as he showed last year at St Andrews when he came second while he was third two years ago at Turnberry, Westwood will be hoping that trend continues in 2011 and he wins the tournament. The only doubt surrounding Westwood is his ability to win a Major under pressure on Sunday afternoon, he clearly has the game to win but he will need to prove he can hold his own mentally.
Westwood has had a couple of spells on top of the world rankings over the past few months which proves his class and that coupled with his brilliant Ryder Cup record probably makes him the best current player without a Major to his name. That will be something that Westwood will be desperate to put right and there may be no better opportunity than at the Open at Royal St Georges, that fact is reflected in his short price to win the Claret jug this season.
It does also have to be said that Westwood does arrive at the British Open in good form, he had an excellent weekend at the US Open to surge up the leader board and finish in tie for third place. If Westwood can maintain that form on the links of Sandwich and his putting holds up he will not be far away come Sunday Evening at Royal St Georges.
