Greg Norman
The Great White Shark, Greg Norman, almost made it a hat trick of wins in Open Golf Championship last year at Royal Birkdale after he rolled back the years and played magnificently. He led the Tournament after three rounds, and went into the final back nine still in the lead. However the wind and the Royal Birkdale course finally got to him and his form slipped just enough allowing playing partner Padraig Harrington to go on to win. Up ahead, Englands Ian Poulter was playing some of the best golf of the day so much so that he pipped Greg for the runner up spot.
Third place however was a remarkable result for a man of 53 years of age and who these days is only a part time golfer. In his heyday, Greg won over 70 Professional tournaments but managed to win just a modest two Major Championships although he has finished runner up an astonishing 8 times. Greg Norman returns to the Open this year and will be among those who will be well backed in the British Open 2009 betting and like last year he will be the subject of many free golf bets flutters. Moreover, he will be returning to Turnberry the scene of his great win at this tournament in 1986.
